The Beatles

If you don't know who the Beatles are, well, you probably aren't human and are accessing this website from space...

The biggest band the world has ever seen. They spanned 3 Decades, from the 1950's, 60's and 70's, breaking up in 1970, after which they all had their own careers - most notably Ringo Star who went on the become the voice of Thomas The Tank Engine.

Their music continued to be a big part of the 1970's and 80's, in the 90's there were still very popular bands copying them - like Oasis.

Still love their music. I went to Liverpool for the first time last year, it was wonderful, seeing all the places associated with them.

To my mind, the greatest band ever, I grew up with them in the 60's from the days of She loves you until the Sergeant pepper era and on until Johns untimely death in NYC. My favourite CD is "The Beatles, live at the BBC" but there is very little I don't like, they seemed t impinge on my life through the 60's, often hearing one of their songs triggers a long lost memory.

Their most recent tracks to be released came out in 1994- 'Real Love' and 'Free As A Bird'. How was this possible? Well, they were incompleted songs dating back to when the band were together, and fortunately John Lennon had recorded all of his contributions to both songs before his tragically early death. This meant that the surviving three were able to finish off the studio recordings with John's piano accompaniment mastered in digitally. It was emotionally a bit tough for them, but Paul McCartney said "We just pretended that he'd popped out of the studio for a minute, and we carried on playing". 'Real Love' was OK if a little bland, 'Free As A Bird' a dirge-like affair with little character in it. It has often been wondered at if The Beatles would have re-united to play Live Aid in '85 if John Hadn't been killed- the answer is that no-one can say, least of all Paul and Ringo! For the one-time Fab Four are now down to two, after George Harrison succumbed to lung cancer in '99.
