Star Wars (1983)

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."

This is Star Wars, one of the most popular science fiction movies of all time. Luke Skywalker wants more than just his simple farm life, he wants to join the rebellion and help battle the evil empire... and one day, he gets his chance.

The Evil Darth Vader kidnaps a rebel spy, Princess Leia but not before she can send out two droids with a message. Luke finds her droids and sees her message, and now finds himself caught up in something much bigger than he could have ever dreamed of.

Although it was the first one released, this is actually the fourth movie in a series which is only now getting its first three movies made.

StarWars remains of of the best trilogies of all time. I'm sure you've seen it, but go watch it again!

This was the first film I can remember seeing where the queue went round the corner of the street down from the cinema! I loved it and became a huge Star Wars fan, still am a bit (not huge, but a SW fan). This was back when you used to buy programmes of the films and the SW one had great pictures in.

I saw SW at the local flicks when it was first released and was totally blown away as you are at 11. I had never seen anything like it before having been brought up on cheesy b movies and rubbish US and UK sci fi series with cardboard and string special effects. I became a complete fan though not as bad as my friend who saw it 11 times ( I only saw it 4 times cos I was skint). He even smuggled a portable tape recorder into the cinema to record the film on and got very annoyed when I got cramp as Han et al were trying to escape from the trash compactor. I can remember the queues stretching outside the cinema up the steps and halfway down the dual carriageway towards the fire station almost for the whole time the film was showing. Oh yes there were those who thought that Battlestar Galatica or Buck Rogers were better but they were just deluding themselves. Oh and the accessories! My personal favourites was a Star Wars pillow case and wonder of wonders a cassette with the soundtrack ( not just the music! ) of the film edited so it would fit onto a c60 that came in its own presentation case. I could go on. My favourite part of the movie? The big end battle obviously.
