  • Romancing The Stone
I remember going to see Romancing The Stone as a "birthday trip" and being rather miffed as a bratty little kid that I wasn't going to see something I'd heard of already, and been pestering for the toys from for a good month before! A valuable lesson learned that day: always trust Mum's judgement on films! Romancing the Stone was a great update on the Indiana Jones theme which was so popular at the time. The contemporary setting made it easier to relate to, and it took itself a lot less seriously than its contemporaries (although more so than its jokey and inferior follow-up The Jewel of the Nile). This was also the film that really brought Michael Douglas to my awareness. But then every film has its flaws ;)
