Yes Minister

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

This was a very funny and cleverly written political comedy series centering around Westminster Government Ministers. Paul Eddington starred.

Without doubt one of the finest sitcoms ever written & performed! Admittedly the first season was a little bit ropey as I really didn't like that political aid of Hacker's (Weasle?). But it soon found its stride and is still a delight to watch.

What a loss the late Paul Eddington is ! Aided and abetted by brilliant spin-doctors in Nigel Hawthorne and Derek Fowlds.

I was a little young at the beginning of the series to understand the humour. But on watching the full series on DVD it has been promoted to my top 5 sitcoms. While I laugh at the antics, I also have creeping fear knowing that many MPs endorsed the series even sharing plots with the writers. Now knowing what happens in parliament and how things 'are' the series took away the mystique and shared with us that these people are winging it! At the time I preferred Jerry from the Good Life, but as I get older and 'get' the humour I realise, like Yes PM, this really was Paul Eddington's finest hour!
