Triumph Acclaim

These were about in the early 1980's and were the last offerings under the Triumph marque, although they were basically Honda Ballade's with a Triumph badge on. The design was about as boring and unimaginative as you could get and the TV ad showed one tearing along a forest track with the words, 'The new Acclaim, totally equipped to triumph!' The only ones I ever remember seeing were either beige or silver with this dreadful dralon-type upholstery, but I think there may have been a 'Special Edition' in black with silver trim. Does anyone remember this? I would imagine that most rusted away long ago, but I still see the odd one now and again.

Boring in 1981 maybe, but certainly not nowadays, when car design brings a whole new meaning to the word 'boring'! My great uncle used to have one for a while, he ended up selling it to his daughter (my cousin)- she lives in South Africa, and used to keep it for use when she came over on visits, as this was cheaper than hiring a car. She had it up until about '91, I think. I passed a faun-coloured example last weekend on the way to Hereford from Worcester- lovely condition, obviously treasured!

My boyfriend's Dad had a cream coloured one. He had it years and kept it immaculate. I loved his family they were great fun and party animals! Every Friday afternoon his Dad would roll up outside in his Triumph Acclaim to take me and my little dog to stay for the weekend with them. Good times.

Havn't seen one for a while and the last one I saw was in very good condition. Used to work on them in the early 90's I remember them being surprisingly fast performance wise and rusting away bodywork wise
