Topps Baseball Stickers

Although baseball cards have been around in some form or another since the 1880s, the hobby took on a new life 100 years later. By the late 1980s, it seemed like everyone was collecting, and prices went up and up and up.Just at the beginning of those boom years, Topps began a decade-long run of baseball stickers that never really got sucked into the mass commercialization of the day but provided a great avenue for collectors to ... collect.The stickers came five or six to a pack for about a quarter, and you could buy a paper album in which to affix them for about the same price. The album was a perfect vehicle for collecting the set because you could see at a glance which stickers you still needed thanks to the holes on each page. While the stickers and albums were never worth much, that also meant they didn't tank in value the way most other cards did before we ever saw 2000.The great thing is that you can still find those old stickers and albums at reasonable prices 35 years later, and they're still a fun collectible -- especially if you're a fan of 1980s baseball.
