Street Hawk

Street Hawk was a poor attempt at bettering the success of Knight Rider. I don't usually like highlighting failures, but I believe on this occasion it's necessary.

Whereas Knight Rider featured a car, Street Hawk was a motorbike. Both vehicles had onboard computers, both could do things normal vehicles couldn't do, both were set in the future, but only one featured a heavily permed David Hasslehoff. I believe it to be this last point that was the decider.

Had Street Hawk featured a perm, maybe I would have liked it more. As it was, it was only a programme about a man who drove a bike really fast through some streets and combatted crime.

I did like the first episode though, where they made Street Hawk's driver get fitted for a suit, and they encased him in foam for a few hours. That was cool I suppose.

Even though the show's run was fairly short (13 eps maybe?), the imagery of the bike streaking through traffic has always stuck with me even into 2009.

Excellent theme by Tangerine Dream, called The Parc, if I remember right

I loved Street Hawk as a kid. I remember once having an accident at the local park when I was 8 and splitting the back of my head open. When my Dad saw it he decided we had to go straight to casualty but I would not leave the house until he set the video to record Street Hawk as it was due to start in 15 minutes. 7 stitches later I was back in the house enjoying one of the greatest programmes of the 80's.
