Skip-It

I never owned a Skip-It, but I remember friends that did. It's quite hard to describe but basically it was a ball on the end of a rope. One end of the rope had a loop in it that you put one foot through and then you had to swing the ball around you with your foot and jump over the rope as it came round, kind of like skipping.

Later Skip-It models had an 'odometer' on the ball so you could keep track of how long you kept the ball going without tripping on it. Skip-Its were a favourite toy to be banned from the playground, as once in 'the zone' it was very difficult to keep track of who was around you, resulting in a few ankle injuries. In fact, even if you were the Skipper the very hard plastic ankle strap would result in some serious bruising.

I had 2 Skip-Its in 1980 I believe, I was 8. One had a strawberry on the end and i think the other was a lemon. My friend and I used to hae competions to see who could go the longest. The orignals had no counter on it.

I had several different types of jump rope including one where I could put knick-knacks inside the handles, but never had Skip-It. I remember one girl in our class that use to play with something that resembled Skip-It at recess except it had a strawberry at the end of her rope.

One of those 90's playground fads but mainly used by the girls. Involved spining it around your ankle and jumping over it. I counted your jumps. Generally came in pink or blue but there were also some knock off versions

I rember watching the skip-it commercials... well i never really actually owned one so what we would do is get a hullahoop and put it on one foot and then make go around like skip-it does. It was the real thing but who cares i still had fun, and at a cheaper price too :) !!!
