Ramsbottom the Snake

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

A secondary character on the Sooty Show, in the black and White Harry Corbett days.

Ramsbottom was a snake who spoke in a rich Yorkshire dialect. He had the habit of telling rather convoluted stories and ditties. Best thing about the show - I still remember him after 50 years!!

I remember Ramsbottom the Snake. I absolutely loved him but he didn't appear very often. I remember him so fondly. Those were the days. He definitely was the best thing in the show.

I just came across your post and had to leave a comment. Yes, Ramsbottom was undoubtedly the funniest character on the Sooty Show! I loved him too and every week I hoped he'd appear. I think the fact that he only turned very occasionally, and always at the wrong time for everyone else, just guaranteed his immortality. I found him absolutely hilarious as a child and still do. I think the Corbetts should have used him just a bit more than they did, but it was probably a fine balance in the end. If he'd appeared more often the humour probably would have faded. Anyway, a great creation and definitely my favourite Sooty show character! The only YouTube link I can find that actually features him is 'Gardeners for Hire', so I'd love to know if there's any more out there.
