Pink Shrimp Sweets

Shrimp Sweets were another of those sweets that were great if you were only allowed to spend a limited amount on sweets, as you could buy several for a penny (well, you could when I was six).

They were shaped like shrimps, but for years I thought they were ears... and I still ate them! Pink, kind of rubbery in texture. I don't remember the flavour, probably raspberry or strawberry. You could also get yellow banana shaped sweets, made of the same substance - was it some kind of petroleum by-product, perhaps? ;-) that tasted, strangely enough, of bananas. I think they were more expensive than the shrimps.

does anyone remember the banana flavour ones in the shape of a banana but flat on one side, about 4 inches long(in old money)but, wait for it ! coverd in chocolate. I could eat SO many of those and not feel sick, for me the best candyish type sweets, mind you the shrimps were very good too, that was always a problem for me as a child,SO many sweets not enough money and i used to sponge quite a bit more than my pocket money to fufill my very sweettooth.

They were SOOOO good. We have a charity sweet box in work and there was a bag of them in there, so i swiped them for myself, they were the same pink goodness! You used to get them from the sweetie shop, i think they might of been 2p though as they were abit bigger than the adverage penny sweet. I gorged my self on them the other day, and felt so sick, but it was all worth it... bring back penny sweets!!
