Bands and musicians BANDS

Our Kid

Our Kid was a young vocal group who first got discovered on the popular ITV show of the 70s, New Faces (a bit like the X Factor of today). Their first hot single, which reached number two in the UK charts was called 'You Just Might See Me Cry'. The original band members consisted of four Liverpudlian teens: Kevin Rowan, Brian Farrell, Terry McCreith and Terry Baccino. Our Kid were lucky enough to perform a full summer season in Great Yarmouth, but rumour has it that Liverpool Education Committee had something to say about the fact that Our Kid should have really been in school. Either that, or the fact that they turned into one-hit wonders was behind the fall of Our Kid.

I was so impressed, really, as a nice video of the kids came out on my screen, seeing 4 cutie boys, all of my age, singing their hit song. I have never knew about their bright talent, in those years, although i was a great fan of the 70's music and followed up very carefully, the top 20 British charts every weekend, here in my country [ Malta ]. The media here simply summed up the adult pop groups of that era, but never and ever, mentioned about young talents, especially those abroad. I have recently listened to their full album, and i guess, in my opinion, that they had a very good talent and a road to success in their future. One must keep in mind, that they were all, still in their teens, and the start of a career is always a hard task for anyone. It is a pity that they were forced, i guess, to break apart. It is also an irrational step, taken by the education dept. to stop them, when schools in my days, all had a music lesson as a subject ! Added to this, for example, neither the former Beatles, Stevie wonder, Petula clarcke, Milly small, and many other famous music artists, were denied and forced to stop their career from their educ. dept. All were in their teens or even younger, like Stevie wonder who started at just 11yrs of age !! So why all of this denial to these 4 young guys ? Wish to know, what has become of them, and if all are still alive, since i had a hint that 2 had left us.

When I was in class 2 at Cardinal Godfrey school in liverpool about 1957 One lunchtime a pupil brought a guitar in and ended up standing on the desks giving us a couple of R&R songs. Didn't know his name. I often wondered if he ended up in one of the Merseybeat bands.
