Madness

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

One of the most popular bands from the ska revival of the late 70s and early eighties. Their distinctive sound propelled them to fame with hits like "It Must Be Love", "Our House" and "House of Fun".

Front man Suggs has now gone on to be a UK TV personality / presenter.

A very, very underated band musically for anyone who's ever tried to play the songs. 'One Step Beyond' is probably one of the best debut albums ever IMO, I've never heard a better 'call to arms'. They weren't just a 'nutty' band either. Check out the track 'Razor Blade Alley' it's brilliant.

The unfortunate thing about Madness was that they scored considerably less-impressive chart positions when they went for a more "serious" sound in the mid eighties (perhaps most of us didn't like the melancholy edge to their later material). This is a shame, as tracks such as 'One Better Day' and 'Yesterday's Men' were quite good songs, much as I like the "fun" sound of their early recordings.
