Everybody's Mixture

Can anyone remember these? They were hard sweets consisting of a mixture from all the different jars in the sweet shop, I think they were like seconds from the factory. They were so bad for my milk teeth, but you thought you were rich with sweets because you got a bit of everything. I remember they all used to stick together in the jar and the assistant had to bang the jar really hard on the counter.

I remember everybody's mixture, too - and get thoroughly fed up when staff members in new 'oldfashioned' sweet shops sniffily say they've never herad of it - do I mean 'winter mixture?' NO, I DO NOT!!!! I mean EVERYBODY'S MIXTURE, which was so wonderful - and sold in jars readymixed. My dad, who was manager of the Corner Shop in Rodborough Buildings, Bridge Street Guildford, Surrey, in the late 60s/early 70s used to order it in!!!

I'd totally forgot about them, but yeah! I do remember them now! Oh my....the smell of 'sweet shop'. I went in one of those retro sweetie shops the other week, (I was buying me Mum some of that sweety tobacco and Kali), and the bloke said: 'Anything else?' I was so tempted to say, 'Yes may I stand here sniffing the air for 1/2 an hour, so that I can be transported back to the 70's?
