Dire Straits

Dire Straits were the aging pub rockers with a melancholy sound from the 70s through to the 90s. Their sound was quite unique though taking its inspration from blues rock, country and even jazz.

Mark Knopfler was the lead guitarist, vocalist and lyricist and his lyrics had a touch of the Bob Dylan about them.

The band were best remembered for their Album "Brothers in Arms" and the hit single "Sultans of Swing".

During the 80s Mark Knoplfer worked with other musicians including Van Morrison, Aztec Camera, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton.

    Aww Dire Straits, one of my favorite Band ever! But the writter of the article forgot to say that Sting alsow sing with Sting that was doing the back vocal on Money For Nothing.

    I loved Romeo and Juliet as it has alot of fond memories for me and sad as it may sound, it always make me cry!

    During the '80s Dire Straits had a hit with "Money for Nothing", which I think was pretty apt for the time. You either had a lot of money, or you were in dire straits!
