Daredevil

Daredevil is a comic book super hero – the real life name of this fictional character is Matthew Michael "Matt" Murdock – he is obviously a fictional character as few real people would have so much alliteration in their name!

Daredevil is part of Marvel Comics and was another popular character created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett. He first appeared in 1964.

Daredevil lives in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. So as usual a place typified by crime, and innocent civilians that need saving, heroically, and by someone in an outfit.

As usually happens with superhero’s he has some contact with radio active properties – this time he is blinded by a radioactive substance that falls from an oncoming vehicle.

However, despite not being able to see anymore, the radioactive exposure heightens his remaining senses beyond normal human ability. He wears a yellow and black, and later a dark red costume (good colour co-ordination for a blind man). And over the years his father (a professional boxer) helps him and teaches him to defend himself.

Then what happens? Well, his father is killed by villans. So, like Batman, Spiderman and many other comic book hero’s he takes the only possible route available to him – he becomes a superhero to seek out revenge against his father's killers.

In the comic book he had regular enemies, that included Bullseye and the Kingpin.

Daredevil was named one of Empire's "50 Greatest Comic Book Characters" and was made into a film in 2003 with the forgettable Ben Affleck in the title role.
