Curtis Mayfield

American soul, funk, rhythm and blues singer was born in June 1942.

Curtis' career began in 1956 when he joined 'The Roosters', two years later 'The Roosters' became 'The Impressions'. The band had one big hit with "For Your Precious Love". In 1970, Curtis ventured a solo career and his most successful singles included "Super Fly" & "Freddie's Dead", which sold over 1 million copies each. He continued to be active throughout the late 70's & 80's.

Tragically, Curtis Mayfield was paralyzed from the neck down after stage lighting equipment fell on him at an outdoor concert in New York in 1990, he died 9 years later as a result of his accident.
