Crossbows and Catapaults

The players of Crossbows and Catapaults each started out with a little treasure of some sort that they built a castle around using plastic bricks. You and your opponent would then take turns either launching ammunition at each other's castles with the catapaults or shooting bricks with the crossbows.

My family literally spent HOURS sprawled out on the living room floor, cheering on whoever happened to be playing. In our house, the rules were that the "winner moved on"! It made for some LOOOONG nights of game-playing!

What a game! I used to play this week in week out with my best mate. We spent hours trying to work out winning strategies, the best of which was doubling up the elastic bands on the weapons! We turned those crossbows into rocket launchers :-)

I remember when I got the original set. We didn't have much money back then so it was like getting a new pony or go-kart. Anyway... me and my friends used to set up our castles and battle away for hours. We came up with different ways to play the game and learned how to make our crossbows more powerful by doubling the rubber bands. I always thought this game would live forever just like LIFE or Rock-em Sock-em robots. I was so disappointed a few years ago when I wanted to buy this for my own kids. I couldn't find it anywhere.

My and my mate paul used to play this for hours, we both had the main large starter set and I also had one of the smaller expansion sets (which featured a silver trojan horse that could fire the disc missiles from its spring loaded tail !) We'd go head to head or set up all the turrets, figures and blocks at one end and team up to knock them all down. Possibly the ultimate boys toy.

I still have the entire collection! I spent hours with my friends trying to capture each other's treasures.
