They came out at the same time as the jam shoe, in the late-70s and early-80s. They were a loafer with a gold chain across the front, with the name 'College' on them. Real ones (god forbid you had fakes!) had stitching up the front and across the back. Timpson brought out a cheap imitation. Tommy College had tassles instead of a chain. A moccasin shoe in a similar style was out at the same time, too. Debbie Harry is wearing a pair on the single cover of Call Me.
