Movies MOVIES

Blade Runner (1982)

I remember in 1984 - when I was a 8 year old kid - watching a cultural show in Hungary. It was called "Telebutik" and that was the only show that featured music videos from MTV at the time - cold war was still going on. Sometimes they talked about movies as well and one time they showed scenes from Blade Runner.

When I saw the flying cars I immediatelly knew I wanted to watch the film. Of course I was too young at the time, so I first saw the film years later. I was not disappointed however, and it remains one of my favourite movies. Every year I watch it, and seems like it gets more and more relevant.

I remember watching this film for the first time back in the mid 80s in a local cinema. I came away afterwards rather disappointed because it wasn't the kind of SF film I was expecting, especially so close after the Star Wars films came out which looked more like your traditional SF setting and technology. Instead, BR was quite gloomy, dark, depressing, slow and with a horribly unconvincing voice-over and copout ending. I hated the film with a passion! But a few years the Director's Cut was released and I loved it, not least because the ending was a bit more in keeping with the mood of the film, and there was no voiceover. Of course the most memorable moments were the landscapes (especially of the Tyrell Building) and Ray Batty's "I've seen things ....." speech! I have to confess that even though Roy was very much the bad guy, that speech had me in tears, and still resonates today some 40 years on!

Saw this Film together with Alien as a double feature in 1984 in a run down 1 Dollar house. I hadn't seen both films before, and was (needless to say i guess) absolutely blown away. Actually it is somewhat sad to realize, that i'll probably never have such a cinematic experience (2 never-watched-before movies of this quality in one session) again in my whole life.

I saw this when i was 14 and it stuck with me for years and years, even now it influences me. I loved the dark mysterious atmosphere where everything was a little bit inexplicable. It took me 'til adulthood to really understand it.

I love Bladerunner, it has been my favourite film since I was very little. I really liked the atmosphere of the film and wanted to live in that world. The Vangelis music was great too.
