Axa Cartoon Strip in The Sun

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Axa was a daily cartoon strip with 4 of 5 frames each day, shown (usually) on page 7 of The Sun. She was a warrior type who wore only the skimpiest clothes. Can't remember the story lines or who she was fighting though!

I remember her very well and have kept a lot of them in scrap books... she was always getting her kit off. I loved Barbarella as a kid so I felt she was the next best thing... I collected them for many years, not sure I have every strip tho, and I'm sure I give up after a couple of years...

I think it was set in a sci-fi world, where she was a female warrior in an Iron-age type tribe battling against technologically advanced civilisations who were trying to enslave her people. I used to read it in old copies of The Sun that were spread out during junior school craft sessions to stop us making a mess on the desks!

I also remember the Axa strip in The Sun newspaper during the early 80s'. For some strange reason I got my Nan to keep all the papers when I was a kid and I used to cut out and keep the strips. There are a few references to the strip on the internet - I think it died out during the mid 80s'. Axa was a female Tarzan style character who was sometimes assisted by a robot - it was an appropriate strip for The Sun newspaper as she hardly wore any clothes!
