Archie Comics

Archie Comics showcased the wacky adventures of the kids from Riverdale: Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica. There was Mr. Weatherbee, the principal, and a whole host of secondary characters. These comics were great because they were relatively inexpensive and rather ubiquitous in supermarkets and local convenience stores. Archie's biggest problem in every issue was deciding whether he liked Betty or Veronica more.

I read Archie comics all thru late-1950s thru 1960s. Especially in the summertime, in the car, on the long vacation road trips to Ticonderoga, Lake George, in the Adirondacks area of Upstate NY State. Comics were 10cents then for single issues.

I use to read these all the time that my older brother would tease me about it while my mom would try to make me read something more educational. I read the regular Archie books as well as the double editions, the Betty and Veronica editions, and Little Archie. I remember how I use to despise Reggie because he seemed like a jerk, and how I preferred Betty over Veronica.

there arent many people in the uk that know about archie comics. i still read them as an adult. it kind of takes you away from reality for a while as you enter the world of riverdale. i ve been reading them since i was a kid. i first discovered them when i used to see my family in india as all of my cousins used to read them. over there you can hire them from libraries run by people from their homes for a nominal fee. i even had hundreds that i collected but during a clean out at home they were thrown away but in the future i plan to start a new collection. although you can buy them in some specialist shops in the uk i still buy them in india as they are a fraction of the price. there is even a second hand market where they are even cheaper as people who have finished reading them sell them to second hand book sellers so this is a good way of saving money if you are only interested in casual reading and not in collecting. the official website is archiecomics.com which is based in the usa. the main characters aside ie archie, jughead, betty, veronica and reggie there are other quite interesting characters like big moose, ms beazley (the dinner lady at riverdale high school) who is famous for serving horrible food (which jughead normally eats anyway) and for being grumpy, mr svensson (the janitor), dilton (who is really into his studies), waldo weatherbee (the principle) who is constantly harrassed by archie and jughead, hot dog (jugheads dog), hiram lodge (veronicas dad) who has the same issue as mr weatherbee, big ethel (who really likes jughead), smithers (veronicas butler), jellybean (jugheads baby sister)
