WFLA Milkshake

What it stood for, I have no idea! But WFLA milkshakes were new in about 1983/84, I remember this because I had first started secondary school and used to pick a carton up at lunch time. It came in choc/mint flavour, rum and raisin and coffee! The tetrapak carton was kinda abstract and...well...that 80's 'art', that us girls used to hang up in our bedrooms, that you would buy from those knick-knack shops that were all the rage at the time! If I remember rightly, the slogan for WFLA was "No fizz. No cans. No lobster." Just as abstract as the name.

I'm with a radio station in Tampa, Florida USA called WFLA. It was reported by a Tampa newspaper at the time (early 1980s) that the creator of WFLA was inspired when he visited Florida and listened to the radio station. I'm doing research for a potential blog post and would appreciate hearing from anyone with information. Please e-mail gordonbyrd@iheartmedia.com

The strange WFLA referred to a company based in Waterlooville, Hants and it was to do with fluoride added to the milk. I lived in Portsmouth at the time and remember researching what the WFLA stood for. One of the quirky adverts was Waitress Foolishly Lassoing Aircraft. Mad but it worked as I remember the ads over 25 years later! Mint choc was the best :)

I remember the TV adverts for WFLA better than the product! The idea behind them was 'what does WFLA mean?' So we had ads based on 'Wives For Lovelorn Androids' and 'Winged Flamingo Limbo Akimbo'. You're right about the lobsters - they were worked into every advert! I rememebr the 'Androids' advert that featured a housewife pulling a lobster out of a toaster... The ads were great - really creative and quirky. But the only time I tried the product I hated it!
