The only thing worse than going to school, was going to school in new clothes. It was okay if it was something cool, but as it was bought by your parents it was most likely going to be something they thought "will last" be it a new pair of Clarks or some itchy trousers from Marxes.
It was that horrible anticipation as you approached the gates that you knew your classmates were most likely gonna cane you over it. If it was new shoes, they got christened by everyone stamping on them. The only thing worse than going to school in new clothes was going to school with a new haircut! But that's another story.
