Texan Bar

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

As a kid I pulled out two teeth (admittedly already loose at the time) by chewing on a Texan Bar! It was chocolate-covered nougat which was virtually impossible to bite through. Kids loved it, dentists/mums hated it!

Exciting, delicious treat from the 70s which disappeared all too quickly despite memorable TV ad campaign whilst the boring Mars and Milky Way are still with us after all these years. Go figure

I seem to remember that sometimes you would get one where the nougat was much less chewy than the usual - an early version of winning the lottery!

Remember the Mexican firing squad advert. These bars must have had so many kids teeth out! I can feel an ache on my jaw muscles just thinking about these. And I can still see the speckles of chocolate on my Sta-Press where it flaked off whilst trying to bite a bit off.

Those Texan Bars were great I wish they come back in production to! I found a story all about them here http://www.oldschoolsweets.com/the-tale-of-the-texan-bar-undisputed-champion-of-chocolate-chews/

I don't understand why there aren't made anymore. The relaunched ones by Nestle in 2005 weren't quite the same as the originals, but were still good. I hope they bring them back again (for good) and get the recipe right next time.
