Roots

Roots was a TV series from 1977 which dramatised author Alex Hayley's family ancestry traced back to his great great great Grandfather Kunta Kintae, an enslaved man in the Gambia.

This was not an easy series to produce in 1960s and 1970s America but it has inspired me to trace my family tree back to that time and further. Roots was totally brilliant and sums up the 70s for me. It really opened my eyes and I can't praise it enough.

I bought the 25th Anniversary edition DVD set of the first series, and I'm now collecting all the consequent series and related material. I've been inspired to trace my roots by this too!
