Raleigh Burner

The true Brit BMX was the Raleigh Burner and is as iconic as the Grifter and the Chopper. I had my first Burner in 1985 when I was 11, a Raleigh Super Burner in black/gold, and I practically lived on it for many years and can still remember riding it as though it were yesterday. Browsing eBay in Feb 2005 I spotted the Burner I always wanted but couldn't afford. A 1984 Tuff Burner in blue/yellow with Yellow Skyway mags. I bought it for my 31st birthday present to myself and lovingly restored it (see photo).

A lad I fancied at school had a Super Burner. I used think how nice the gold looked with his olivey coloured skin! I became a friend of his family many years later and we sometimes go up the pub together. He found it most amusing when I confessed this over several bottles of beer! I can still picture him cycling past my gang of my mates on the way back from School in his little shirt, blazer and tie, Although...that probably sounds very wrong now that we're the wrong side of 30!Lol!

I had a mag burner (white with black 7 spoke mags) when I was about 14. It was given to me by my next door neighbour. A couple years later I sold it for £25. Damn wish I hadn't now.
