Mind Your Language

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Jeremy Brown teaches an English languages class for foreign students. Full of light-hearted European and Asian stereotypes but would no doubt be considered very unpolitically correct if shown today!

I remember when the Asian lady was asked to present a bouquet to the Queen on her visit to the school, and she was in excruciating pain when she tried to curtsy! Dino Shafeek never even got a mention when he died, even though he was such an excellent actor and comedian. I think you can buy the DVD online, so all is not lost!

I used to love mind your language,it was so funny but would indeed be considered politically incorrect but then again,so is George Bush and Prince Philip and they are still around. Was there only me that thought the teacher Mr.Brown was gorgeous??

I remember this as being the first place I saw Marina Sirtis, later a star of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I think this series is now out on DVD. Also starred Dino Shafeek who was in It Ain't Half 'ot Mum.

This programme was a real hoot. But unfortunately, as Kerry-Ann indicated it would be considered politically incorrect today - in fact there were clips on YouTube, a few months back, but they've been removed. Obviously they are, now, classed as 'racist' or inappropriate. It's a shame that this happens so often,to the older shows, I guess there will always be those who take offence however mild the humour. Though to be fair there are some, which warrant it, such as 'Love Thy Neighbour', you could understand that series, now, being unacceptable.

Mr Brown ask this Indian lady (forgot her name, who always knit during the class) "can you tell me the past tense of ride? she replied " rided", its just like want, wanted...no its not rided, madam, the past tense of ride is rode...oh! she gave that typical indian gesture, and said "oh!ham junta,I rided on the rode"
