Toys TOYS

M.A.S.K.

M.A.S.K. was a superb Saturday morning cartoon, shown just after The Racoons, which featured a bunch of middle-aged men who put on masks (no surprises there then) and suddenly became kind-of super heroes.

They were most often involved in saving their own kids from someone's deadly clutches, and to do this they used a range of rather cool vehicles that featured special tools.

I owned an orange jeep which, when you flicked a switch at the side, would fire a speedboat out of the front. I used to have competitions with my brother to see how far we could fire the boat, since the spring in the mechanism was lethal!

The original M.A.S.K toys were released in 1985 and featured all sorts of characters and vehicles that were in the T.V series. Favourites included the green motorcycle, Condor the 4x4 jeep, Gator and the Ford Bronco Jackhammer.

I recently bought a bunch of these on ebay (Thunderhawk, Condor, Jackhammer, Pirahna) to give to my son when he is older - todays toys are just rubbish by comparison. I got a set of the DVDs so that he can get an idea of the story and I'll build up his collection slowly. Hopefully, he will have as much fun with them as I did... If not, I've still got transformers, original Star Wars, Turtles, and original Thundercats to go...

i do that as well - see toys that i had as a kid on Ebay and then buy them:D This reminded me so much of just how many MASK toys i had. I always wanted Rhino but never got it. I had an orange car that turned into a tank and a dune buggy thing that turned into a plane. Like many people i had them until quite recenty when my mum got rid of a load of toys from the attic. Not happy with that at all!

This was the best cartoon going. Though its that long ago I cant remember any name, though I do remember going into WHSmith with a gift voucher and bought the robot that the kid had.

Awesome toys! I never had Rhino, but had Raven and the green bike which turned into a chopper.

I remember getting Rhino for christmas and it had an ejector seat which would throw the passenger out of the door, I did it once too often and it not only threw the passenger out of the door it also threw the door. I also lost count of the amount of times my mother would have to fish the masks out of the hoover bag.

I was instantly smitten by the toys when they were released in the mid 80's in the UK. I was about 7 or 8 when I got Jackhammer and Switchblade for xmas. Over the next 2 or 3 years I built up a collection that included Boulder Hill, Volcano and Goliath, etc and played with them all the time. I think it was the fact that they were like transformers but seemed more realistic that won my heart. Sadly, my parents chucked a load of them out when I went to Uni but I still have a truck called Bulldoze and 2 cars called Raven and Hurricane. My favourite child hood toy-series without doubt.

I had Matt Tracker's car/plane, but lost one of the tyres down a grid & eventually me & some friends tried to see if it would fly by hurling it accross a playground. It did for a bit but got fairly smashed when it landed.
