Logan's Run

Based on a William Nolan/George Clayton Johnson novel about an overpopulated subterranean future world where people were compulsorily killed at the age of 30. Logan 5 (a somewhat miscast Michael York) is a 'Sandman', an enforcer of the compulsory age limit. A secret group exists claiming to know the whereabouts of 'Sanctuary', a safe haven from the age limit. Logan is tricked into tracking the group down, but instead, with the assistance of Jessica 6 (an oh-so-sexy Jenny Agutter), escapes to 'Sanctuary' (the surface world) and frees the remainder of the population. Most remembered for Peter Ustinov's portrayal of a dotty old hermit (the only old person Logan and Jessica have ever encountered) living alone on the surface. Also featured in a small role was Farrah Fawcett, just before she achieved celebrity in the TV series 'Charlie's Angels'.

Logan's Run was the TV series that followed on from the film of the same name with Michael York. Set in the future, Gregory Harrison plays Logan, a Sandman; an enforcer, who pursues those escapees, who should've at the age of 30, taken the 'carousel' to be 'reborn', when in fact they go to their deaths. As an individual 'comes of age', a device implanted into the hand indicates that their time is up. Logan's time expires but, luckily, he is enlightened by an escapee named Jessica, and they both go on the run, pursued by the Sandmen, to find the fabled haven, 'Sanctuary'. On route, they are joined by a humanoid android called Rem (a forerunner to Mr Data from Star Trek, The Next Generation.)
