Kim Wilde

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Kim Wilde had huge hits in the 80s. The one I remember the most is "Kids in America". Today she is no longer singing, but is now famous as a TV gardener.

She's the daughter of '50s rock & roll star Marty Wilde. 'Kids In America' SOUNDED great, though the lyrics were crap- paying homage to obnoxious American youngsters! Both she and her Dad were somewhat cow-towing to US culture, which is a shame as they could both have a distinctive British sound when they wanted to. She released a novelty version of 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' in December '87 with Mel Smith and Griff Rhys-Jones, which I think was a charity record. In the '90s she starred in the West End stage musical of 'Tommy', playing Tommy's mother.

I so wanted to be Kim Wilde - great voice, sexy, blonde with an edge. All these years later, I still aspire to be like her - my back garden's a right state!!
