Issi Noho

This was a kids' animation from 1975, except it wasn't actually animated! It was simply a series of still pictures narrated by a male actor, about a magical panda who had been discovered on some waste ground by a group of children. He had some paper tokens in a little pouch round his neck and he'd scribble some symbols on these to make a wish come true for the kids. They got his name from the warning, "ThIS SIde Up. Use NO HOoks" on the side of an old wooden crate!

I thought I was the only one who remembered him too. I was very young but loved it. I was lucky enough to get one of the pictures given to me by the artist.

Ahh, so that's where his name came from! I thought I was the only person left who remembered this- there was one episode in which Issi tries to help the local milkman remain in buisness by diversifying his service, by enabling him to sell groceries and fruit & veg. as well. He magics a huge load of fresh produce onto the milk float, which becomes so overloaded that nothing can be removed from it! It was a very gentle programme, I loved it.
