Helping Henry

Helping Henry was a kids' sci-fi programme on Channel 4 throughout the 80s. Anyone remember it? It was about aliens that travelled through the universe disguised as dining chairs! After a visit to our planet, where a boy called Stephen helps the alien, it returns to the planet Holgon to provide Cosmic 1 and 2, its leaders, some feedback. All I remember was the song! " Henry were helping henry and were telling Henry everything we know, Henry were helping henry but we've still got a long long way too go!"

I wrote the show with John Henderson. Fluck and Law designed Henry, who was worked through complicated preumatics operated by a keyboard. Jeremy Hardy and the puppeteer sat in a booth off set, and everyone from director to stage manager talked to directly to Henry the chair on any fine points of performance. It was a weird but somehow magical experience. And I'm glad a little glimmer or Henry remains. All the best, Chips

I thought I was going mad and had imagined this Programme as nobody I asked had heard of it. I used to watch helping Henry back in the 80,s. If I remember rightly Henry was a mahogany dining room Chair and would talk to the little boy when there was nobody else around. Thanks dyr

They didn't want the human race to know or be aware, and so they came to planet earth disgused as dining chairs! Henry we're helping Henry and we're telling Henry everything we know, Henry we're helping Henry, but we've still got a long long way to go.... Yep I remember it!
