Goodfellas (1990)

Goodfellas is a fantastic mobster movie reuniting director Martin Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro. The film tells the true story of original supergrass Henry Hill, played by Ray Liotta, and looks at how he started out and how he rose in the ranks of the mafia.

Goodfellas chronicles the highs and lows of the mafia world, the romance, the murder and the loyalty. The film follows Henry's descent into drug abuse and paranoia and his eventual descision to go into witness protection. Goodfellas is based upon the book "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi.

My favourite part of the movie is the scene featuring Tommy (the fab Joe Pesci) and his funny-guy speech which is, in turns, hilarious and deeply sickening.

Not quite my kettle of fish, but recently watched this purely because of De Niro, and I would have to say I rank it higher than the original Godfather in a mafia-film context.
