Steve Martin stars as private detective Rigby Reardon in this film noir comedy. Rigby is hired by a young lady who is convinced her father's death was no accident. After all, he was a prominent cheese scientist working on a secret recipe!
Whilst searching for the truth Rigby encouters all sorts of dangerous men and women who were the hallmarks of the classic detective movies from the 1940s and 50s. Since the film is entirely black and white, scenes from some of the old movies are cut in and Rigby is even edited in next to the original actors. This is how his assistant turns out to be Humphrey Bogart!
