Cresta Drink

"It's frothy man!" So the ad said. Cresta was the orange flavoured, probably the sweetest most plastic-tasting drink you can imagine but as a 7 year old being dragged round Clacton market, it was probably the best taste in the world. Cresta was opaque and thick and frothy - God only knows what was in it! I worked for Schweppes at the time, the original had real milk but it was a nightmare for quality control due to milk going off and caused a lot of problems with line and equipment cleaning (CIP). Not sure what was in it additive wise but obviously the shelf life was improved when milk was removed. No doubt plenty of people preferred the original taste to the newer one.

I remember the cream soda from 1973 because my mum and dad sold it in their fish and chip shop.

I LOVED this drink. Me and my brother, Malc, would sit in the back of grandad's mini car while Nan did her shopping in Budgen's. To keep us quiet we had a PINK Cresta, a Curly Wurly or a packet of Quavers. They were the good ol' days! I don't remember what flavour the Pink Cresta was but it was my favourite. Cresta sell lemonade in my local shop still. The Cream Soda was a favourite too!

I remember drinking this on holiday on the Isle of Wight. In 1973. (I bet you can still get it there)! Did you know that Salman Rushdie was the man that came up with the advertising slogan 'Its frothy man'!

Hey! Cherry flavour cresta was the best, bought from the pop van that used to come round our way on a friday night. It would give you a red mustache for weeks, or as i later found out, that if drank really carefully, would make fab pretend red lipstick. You'd get twopence back on the bottle, and a clip round the ear from dad if it got broke!!! A kid could divorce it's parent for that kind of behaviour nowdays! LOL
