Chelmsford 123

Chelmsford 123 was a brilliant comedy set in Chelmsford during the Roman invasion. Full of cringeworthy puns and corny jokes it is still one of my favourite comedies.

The main characters were Badvoc (Rory McGrath, you'll probably know him best from 'They think its all over' and Aulus Paulinus (Jimmy Mulville, various Comedy club things and one fairly slack sitcom - dont remember the name).

I hope this comes out on DVD :)

I remember the show getting cancelled and Rory McGrath , in disguise appearing in voxpops ( I think I'm right ) and complaining bitterly that the show ( his show ) had been cancelled.

"They call me Mungo the Evasive." "Why's that, then?" "Who's asking?"

I agree - it was woefully under-rated. The first half of the first episode was set in Rome & was entirely in Latin with sub-titles (Jimmy Mulville studied Classics at university) His greasy sidekick Gracientus (?) was played by Philip Pope. Favourite quote: Neil Pearson: "They call me Mungo the contradictory" Jimmy Mulville: "Do they really?" Neil Pearson: "No"

I spent many a happy night watching it when it was repeated late on C4. I keep searching for it on DVD. My favourite episode was the statue with the nose missing, it was very funny.
