Cagney and Lacey

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Cagney and Lacey was a cool series about two American female cops. One was married with kids and the other was single. They were partners and the show followed their police careers as well as their personal life.

I hated the ruddy thing, it just seemed so right wing and endorsing of American paranoia. I was particularly infuriated by Lacey's husband Harve (fat bald moustachioed little man who you could imagine being a leading light in the pro-gun lobby). The episodes when his wife was pregnant really p****d me off, making such a deal about being a pregnant policewoman...YUCH! (In reality, Tyne Daly is actually quite liberal- she was very anti-Bush and supports Obama's health care reforms, as well as several ecological organisations. She does a lot of stage-acting now, and was recently in the West End production of the musical 'Chicago').

I can vaguely remember this show I was only young when it was on back in the 80's but it is one of the shows I did used to watch. I have seen a few of the episodes on a SKY tv channel recently but I can't for the life of me remember what channel, day or time they were on. If I find out i'll update

Cagney & Lacey has to be my all time favourite show. Brilliant writing, excellent casting. The on screen chemistry between Sharon & Tyne was great. The episodes that stick in my mind were the ones where Chris becomes an alcoholic after the death of her father and when Mary Beth gets breast cancer. No matter how many times i watch these episodes, i still cry. These ladies can certainly act! Every year the series was on air, between 1982-1988, the Emmy award for Best Actress went to either Tyne (4 times) or Sharon (2 times), says it all really doesn't it! The series was a great mixture of drama, humour and was at times very emotional as well, played to perfection by these two outstanding actresses. I wish i had all 125 episodes in my collection, that's how good it is!! Thanks for the memories!

This was a fab cop show set in tough New York City, but different co they were women! It was quite gritty and featured Cagney who was tough, slim, blonde and single and an ex-alcoholic, and Lacey who was a dumpy brunette, not so tough, married to Harve with a couple of kids. There were also some great characters in the Cop Shop. This was primetime evening viewing in its time and i think they even made a few films

Cagney and Lacey was a great show, now being repeated most saturdays on ITV. Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly starred as two cops, who had to deal with both work and private life. Played by fantastic actors, it is was one of the best TV shows of its day.
