America

For many, many years Alistair Cooke presented his short but always fascinating "Letter from America" broadcasts on Radio 4. However, he also wrote and presented the television documentary series "America" for the BBC. This was the most in-depth exploration of the past and present history, nature and culture of the United States of America ever compiled.

It was full of Mr Cooke's usual personal and anecdotal observations and was unmissable television. It was an exploration and analysis of everything that is both good and bad about this young country and its multi-faceted population.

Although it was made and first broadcast over 30 years ago, it still has relevance today as it explains a lot about how current attitudes in the US came about.
