Alanis Morissette

When Alanis Morrisette's hit "You Oughta Know" (from her debut album "Jagged Little Pill") crackled across all airwaves, angry and angst-ridden women everywhere believed she had finally found her own personal anthem! Little wonder that feminists of all persuasions each then also tried to claim Morrisette as their own poster-child.

"Jagged Little Pill" is known for its powerful, ironic and sometimes brutal lyrics all sung in Morisette's uncompromising voice, with a touch too much pathos and emoting in some songs.

My ex-girlfriend was nuts about her, and I suspect directed 'You Oughta Know' against me when we finally split up (although the song implies that the guy being sung about left Alannis for another woman, whereas I never went on to a replacement). I like the video for 'Isn't It Ironic', which depicts four Alannis's riding along in a beautiful '70s American car! have often thought that 'Head Over Feet' would be good on the soundtrack if ever anyone ever makes a film of Anne Mc Caffrey's sci-fi classic 'The Ship Who Sang'.

I love the "Jagged Little Pill" album but don't really care for much of her other stuff.
