Blancmange

Surely no list of bands would be complete without including Blancmange, a British synthpop band who became popular in the early to mid 80s. Formed by Neil Arthur (vocals) from london and Stephen Lunscombe (instrumentals), the band's first EP was titled Irene and Mavis. It wasn't until 1982 that the band had their first real hit with Feel Me and later Living On The Ceiling, which reached No 7 in the singles chart in the uk. Their debut album was Happy Families. Their second album Mange Tout reached the top 10 of the UK album charts and they went on to cover an ABBA hit, The Day Before You Came (it got slightly higher in the charts than ABBA's original version). After the late 80s were not kind to Blancmange, and the band and the dessert faded out of fashion, the former split up in 1987.

However, if the rumour is to be believed, blan have recently reformed and are creating new music... so watch this space!

Their best song, Lose your Love features in the movie 'Flight of the Navigator' in the scene where David is watching MTV at a government facility. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N81UChK78WY

I remember their song 'Blind Vision' was really weird- God knows what it was meant to be about. I thought that Vince Clarke was involved in the band, but apparently not.
