Afghan Coats

Nothing symbolises 70s fashion and the era of the hippy more than an afghan coat. It might have smelt a bit odd granted, but the very fact that John Lennon wore one made it all OK. Furry inside, afghan coats weren't ideal for summer, but great for the cold winter months. On the outside, embroidered patterns made each coat stand out from the next. Worn with flares and long plaits, it was an instant fashion statement and it's such a shame that the trend eventually disintegrated - in the same way many of the suede coats did.
