Golden Wonder Ringos

No Ringo goes like a Ringo goes.

Ringos were crisps made by Golden Wonder I think in the mid- to late-80's. They were rings about the size of a 10p piece. They came in Ready Salted, Salt & Vinegar and Cheese & Onion flavours.

They had a lovely strong flavour - salt and vinega were my favourite, had a real bite - a lot like bones crisps.

They stopped making them before foil bags were used, so it has been a while since I last tasted them. There is even a facebook group dedicated to trying to bring them back!

The manufacturers well and truly messed up when they reintroduced them, the texture was all wrong and as for the flavour-I'd rather lick the inside of my bin as it'll be more pleasant on the palate!! The cheese and onion ones were my favourite and I'll be off to M&S tomorrow-thanks svat for the tip off :-)

If you're still craving cheese and onion Ringos, pop into Marks and Spencers and get a bag of their own brand onion rings - they are the same texture as Ringos and are really YUMMY.

I remember these being launched in the early 1970s. Two cartoon cavemen featured in the TV ad and you could get transfers of the characters free when they first went on sale. They reprised the two cavemen characters a few years back, something similar was done when golden nuggets breakfast cereal were reintrodueced a couple of years ago and the old gold prospector and his mule were used to promote them in TV ads.

They sort of brought them back a few years ago but they werent the same, crisp manufacturers should do a vote on what old ones to bring back instead of stupid make your own crap flavours up !!!
