Lights Alive
Lights Alive :
Lights Alive was like a light box but with a black cover full of small holes which each had a tiny LED bulb shaped bit of plastic in it. Lights Alive from Tomy came with a bunch of different tools which all served the purpose of being able to poke down the holes and push the plastic bits so they were transparent and the light could shine through. This would allow you to create all sorts of pictures and patterns.
The light box itself had different colour mirrored pieces around it so that the colours that in your picture were like a rainbow. You could change these colours by spinning a wheel at the side of the box.

The original fiendishly difficult puzzle,
now with solution guide
The original fiendishly difficult puzzle, invented by Erno Rubik in Hungary and one of the biggest toy crazes ever. In 1982 Hawkin's Bazaar was the first to bring a few cases of the Rubik's Cube to England. Unfortunately 25 years ago we were very small and it wasn't long before a much larger company had the exclusive rights to distribute in the UK. We are very pleased to be offering it again! And now includes a new seven step solution guide.

About Hawkin's Bazaar
Hawkin's Bazaar has been providing you with unusual gifts, toys and gadgets since 1973. Originally a local toy shop at the Hawk Inn (hence the name), Hawkin's Bazaar now sells things you thought had gone forever and things you never even knew existed. They bring you Pin Art, Morph, Rubik's Cube, Big Trak, Space Hoppers and much more.
Also remembered...

Blackstar was an action figure line produced by Galoob in 1983. It was based on the Filmation cartoon of the same name that was aired in 1981 in which John Blackstar, an astronaut, flew through a black hole, crashed and ended up stranded on the planet Sagar and is befriended by the Trobbits - a race of gnome people. There were three different series of Blackstar figures released in consecutive years from 1983. Figures either came with Trobbits or Demons or on their own. In 1984 the second series of Blackstar action figures were released. These were basically formed on the original series although these also had a "laser light".

I have been racking my brain trying to remember what this was called! My husband laughed at me last night because I was up until 2am online trying to find something about it, and all I could come up with was info on lite-brites which are NOT the same thing. So, thanks for naming it for me! I loved this toy!

I would think that this would be more popular than Lite Brite, because of the fact that there weren't any colored pegs that could get lost, stepped on, vacuumed, swallowed by the family pet, that sort of thing. Also, Lite Brite you had to plug in while Lights Alive was battery operated. It saved more electricity, it seemed. I never had one, but I *did* have the commercial for it on a tape (which unfortunately died, but I found the commercial online last night).

This was an absolutely FANTASTIC toy! On the rare occasions when I'd break away from playing with my dolls and playsets, I'd either curl up with a book, or fight with my sister over who got to play with our Lights Alive right there and then! I remember being fascinated by the lights and the "bubble board" we drew on using the special tools.
