Bicycles BICYCLES

Sears Spyder

The Sears Spyder was a tall, metallic, purple, 10-speed bike that had two black shifter knobs for gears on it. It was a very unusual bike, and way taller than any others out there.

I remember ALWAYS wanting a Sears Spyder, but at that time, $127.00 (which is what they sold at Sears for) was way out of my family's price range. I remember that these two twins at school had these bikes, and they used to let me sit on them when I was about 8 years old. I've been searching for YEARS to see a photo of this bike!!

Hi, I just found a Sears 3speed Spyder. It is a girls model and it is all purple. Banna seat with the high handlebars. It has a drum shifter that has a cable chain comming out. Its in good shape. Needs tires and chrome polish. Front forks will need some grease. Tom

I am looking for a bike or even a picture of a Sears Spyder purple single speed with a round chrome chain guard, cheater slick and drag brake. I had one when I was about 10 years old. I think it was the least expensive spyder you could get from Sears

HI BIKE LOVERS. BACK IN THE EARLY 1970s I RODE A SEARS SPYDER BIKE. AZTEC GOLD WITH A 3 SPEED WRIST SHIFTER, TIGER BANANA SEAT, A LONG SISSY BAR AND THE BIGGEST SLICK I COULD FIT ON THE BACK. I ALSO HAD A SMOKEY GRAY HUFFY MONO SHOCK DIRT BIKE. I STILL HAVE THE SPYDER BIKE. IT NEEDS TO BE RESTORED. HAVE FUN. PEACE.

I got a black Spyder 5-speed with 24" wheels fpr my birthday in 1967. Many fond memories cruising around town with it. I must have cleaned and polished every square inch of the bike on a weekly basis. It was bigger and more imposing than the 20" "banana bikes" as we called them and I felt like I was riding a Caddy among Chevys. The 5-speed "derailleur" was also neat and very different from the typical 3-speed rear hub transmissions. Sold it in the early '70s and graduated to a "10 speed racer". So cool to see the pictures and have a place to share the memories.

I remember a friend had a Sears Spyder . It was a little longer than a standard sting ray, purple ,hand brakes and a unusual drag brake that looked like t handled shifter. I tgought that was rather neat then back in the early 70's.

I own two Sears Spyders. One is the 5 speed, 24 inch wheel model with the two rear brakes, the other is a 3 speed 20 inch girls frame with the flower seat. The photo above appears to be backwards, and to be the 5 speed, as the 10 speed didn't have the chainguard.

I owned a purple, 5 speed. My mother was employed by Sears and probaly paid about $85 back in the late 60's. I was a great bike. I waxed it weekly and was the envy of the neighborhood.
