Wuzzles – they always reminded me of the idea of the “Heffalumps” from Winnie the Pooh. Hybrids of different animals.

A whole range of Wuzzles toys were made in the mid-80's and had a rash of adverts announcing them to the child populace. They certainly made an impression on my young mind. Each Wuzzle was a hybrid of two different animals such as Bumblelion (half bumble bee and half lion), Rhinokey (half rhinocerous and half monkey) and Eleroo (half elephant and half kangeroo)!

They were made by Hasbro (Softies division) to go up against the hugely popular Care Bears. The toys were better made than Care Bears and I think the idea was stronger – merging two animals is a fun concept - though Charles Darwin would have had a heart attack if he’d ever seen one! There was a cartoon that the toys came from “The Wuzzles” (Nothing to do with the Worzels, or Worzel Gummage!) and it was an animated Disney cartoon from 1985. Every single on of the Wuzzles in Wuzzleworld were animal creatures composed of half of one animal and half of another. Only 13 episodes of Wuzzles were produced, making it the shortest running animated series ever produced by Disney. It must surely have been the most popular series to get axed! I wonder why they stopped making it?

The toys were very cute and felty. Very soft and cuddly to hold. My brother had one that he kept and held all day and all night. It was his safety toy and he’d cry and cry if he couldn’t find it. It might have been a bit confusing for him though – it was a cross between a Lion and a Bee. It might explain why he wore a bee keepers uniform when he went to Africa on Safari last year…

    I used to have Mooseal and my friend had Bumblelion, then an evil witch would to try to steal them from us so we had to hide in the 'safe house'! Yeah, really.

    I am so glad so many people remeber the wuzzles, because only me and my friend remember who they were and if i ever mention it to someone who dosent know they just look at me stupid!!!! loved this cartoon and watched it religiously, it was lovely!!!

    I never watched the cartoon but my parents bought me Koala Keet for my 4th birthday and i loved him so much...until one dreadful day i moved house and my beloved Koala Keet was gone forever!! i am 21 and i miss him so much i love my koala keet and i wont stop til i find him or replace him...he wont b the same but itll be better than not having him anymore xxx

    i have all the wuzzle toys. the wuzzles, strawberry shortcake and jem and th eholograms were my favourite back in the day.

    i remember watching it when i was about 8 or 9. i loved the cartoon. i loved all the characters. wish they would bring it back. brings back alot of childhood memories.

    Was a favorite of mine. I still have a bumblelion figure. My kids play with it now. My favorite was butter bear.

    lol.. I bought my wife an "eliroo" about 20 years ago... Not too hard to guess what that one was made up from...

    I had a sticker album of the Wuzzles and I managed to complete it all - i was so proud!!

    i got a wuzzle for my 1st christmas. its called tycoon but i have always called it wuzzle. that was back in 86 and i still have it in my bed with me nearly 21 years on. it is the only toy/teddy from my childhood that i still and hope to have for many more years
