Sinead O' Connor

Sinead O'Connor rose to fame with her stunning cover version of the Prince song "Nothing Compares 2 U", which, aided by a beautifully simple video, stayed at number one forever (or seemed to). However, all her new found fans drifted away once they realised her own sound was less mournful ballads, more high-pitched warbling.

Now best remembered for being bald and having a reputation for being slightly crackers - tearing up a picture of the Pope on American TV, before becoming some sort of priest, these being just some of her tabloid-baiting antics.

Though Sinead was undoubtedly a bit weird, she had one hell of a voice on her. "You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart" from the Daniel Day Lewis film "In The Name Of The Father" was angry, sorrowful, full of a bone-deep melancholy and hauntingly brilliant. She had her moments, though they were regrettably few and far between.
