Hello Kitty

Now who hasn't seen Hello Kitty!!? she was originally Miss Kitty, and made by Japanese company Sanrio... but that was the 70's. Hello Kitty is now American owned (still Sanrio though) and a multi-billion dollar phenomenon.

Hello Kitty is a simple white cat cartoon, but there is pretty much NOTHING this kitty hasn't got her face on. Not content with the usual stationery, and gift items there are Hello Kitty freezers, Hello Kitty microwaves, Hello Kitty rice cookers, Hello Kitty luggage sets, Hello Kitty make-up, Hello Kitty fragrances, Hello Kitty mobile phones, Hello Kitty Cutlery sets, Hello Kitty loo roll, Hello Kitty air freshener... the list goes on.

If you're in the right country you can even get yourself a Hello Kitty shaped false tooth! Bizarre beyond belief. She will take over the world, you HAVE been warned.

Hello Kitty was originally created in 1974 and was registered in 1976. If you check out the stores where there's a plenty of different Hello Kitty merchandise you may also chance upon Hello's Kitty's fellow Sanrio characters like Bobby Jack Monkey, Charmmy Kitty and sugar the Hamster.

Hello Kitty has been the symbol for the U.S charity UNICEF since 1983 and rose to fame after Hello Kitty merchandise was spotted being worn by the likes of Mariah Carey.

Had a Hello Kitty paper clip, a change purse, and I think I had a few hair bobbles including My Melody (another Sanrio character) Later when I was 9, I got one of those Hello Colors, which were bath toys of different Sanrio characters that would change colors accordingly to the temperature of the water. I got the Hello Kitty character, and would also take it with me whenever I had a bubble bath. Unfortunately in less then a year of owning it, it got all hard and dried up from the bubbles (it was basically just a sponge) that my mom said it was no good and threw it in the trash. I still own and buy a few Hello Kitty things, but I wouldn't say I've got a collection. Just a few things here and there like a shower cap, a pen, a Pez dispenser...
