Dancing Flowers

Dancing Flowers were basically plastic potted flowers that swayed from side to side in a dancing motion along to the sound of music.

I remember my mother would sing along to it and we all wondered why it never withered!

After the Dancing Flowers you could get the mounted fish on the wall that sings to you, and i believe there were frog versions of the dancing flowers that held musical instruments like they were in a band, and dancing cans with sunglasses on. Nowadays, the Apple i-dog gadget does much the same thing for a lot more money.

In 1988-89 I worked at Foley's in Hulen Mall at Christmas time. Those Dancing Flowers were everywhere in the store and they put a smile on my face every time I walked past one! Truth be told, I would stand there 10 minutes or so watching them. They could make me smile when nothing else could. I miss them!

I remember the Christmas when Santa left one of those dancing CocaCola cans under the tree for me, and a flower for my brother. They were both so cool, and still stand proudly on our shelves. Neither of them work today, which is a shame. I have opened them both up and tried to repair them, but can find nothing wrong. Exactly how they broke is a mystery - neither were dropped or thrown around. I'd love to figure out how to repair them!

Oh my gosh, I remember these! I thought they were the coolest things back then. I had a Dancing Palm Tree. Anyway, I've got a funny tale about a Dancing Flower and my former music teacher. He had one set up in the classroom, and one day he was so mad at us that the flower, which was behind him, was moving while he yelled! I had such a hard time controlling my snickering!!

I remember when these came out and were the year's novelty item - it's amazing how many other items followed this toy - when you turned it on it would play a little tune and the flower would dance a little erratically to say the least!
