Toys TOYS

Alphie

Alphie was a pre-school talking robot from Playskool. Alphie the Learning Robot came with reversible overlay game cards to give different games when placed on Alphie's chest.Gameboards for Alphie included Alphie Explores Mars, Space Pirates, Robot Land and Rhyming star whilst the cards were; Robot Land, Space Pirates, Rhyming Star, Same Number, Word Match, Word Picture Mat, Number and Objects, Same Ending Sounds, Subtraction, Addition and Same Shapes.

Might not sound all that exciting but I think a 1980s toddler might disagree!

Alphie was the first electronic toy for preschoolers. First released in the late 1970s he was the first in a long line of Playskool high-tech toys.

Later on a second edition came out called Alphie II. Made of white plastic, Alphie had a smiling red face and green, red and yellow buttons around his stomach. In the centre a card could be slotted in and the game play would change accordingly.

Alphie was one toy that my son at age 3 years never let go of , that was in 1984 , Alphie is back now , much better and more playful and I bought it for my boyfriends nephew and niece, he is 4 and she is 5months. I know they will learn alot from it. if you want a toy that is worth it, Alphie is that toy. Noella Canada

I have one. I love for it to play music and games with me and when I got the answer right I would say "I got a shiny face!" I wish I would've gotten another set of cards to put in him since I was getting bored with the set I had. My little cousin use to play with my Alphie in 1995 and call it Alpha like the robot in Power Rangers.

I had my Alphie for years and years. I think it finally sold in a garage sale when I was 16. My sister and I played with it so much my parents stopped buying batteries for it. It sat on my shelf for the rest of its life with me after we grew out of it. I can't really explain it, but it keeping it there to look at it was kind of like a security blanket. This was one of the best toys ever; my kids will be exposed when I have one in my possession again.

I remember wanting alphie badly! This was the white alphie. I never actually got the chance to play with him but I remember liking him because of all the buttons. Eventually I got a alphie but he was broken. Still something magical about him though

I used to say, " Alphieee, I don't like it when you say Uh uh" This was the sound that it made when you got the answer wrong. IN my opinion Alphie was the best 80's toy ever!
