Care Bears

Care Bears : Throughout the 80s, it would have been pretty hard to find a little girl's bedroom that didn't have a Care Bear in it. These teddy bear-like, colourful cuddlies were on hand to comfort you after a hard day at school. What's more, there was an array of Care Bear characters to collect...

But lets start at the beginning, like with Rainbow Brite and Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears started out as a greetings card character. Then in the mid-80s, Kenner Toys released them to the toy world. Despite only reaching 12in high, the 10 Care Bears available all had big personalities - something mirrored by the names they each had. These included: Funshine, Good Luck, Cheer, Tenderheart, Friend, Grumpy, Wish, Bedtime and Love-a-lot. What united them was the plastic heart embedded in their tummies as a sign of Care Bear authenticity.

As time went on and Care Bears' popularity blossomed, new lines were released, including mini hard-plastic figures, Care Bear Cousins, duvet covers, colouring books and loads more bits and bobs with which to adorn your bedroom. There was also a TV programme eventually, which really helped bring Care-a-Lot (the place Care Bears come from) to life. Mickey Rooney even lent his voice to The Care Bear Movie.

What a wonderful message Care Bears sent out to children: love can conquer anything, and friends should stand side-by-side to help each other.

The cute Care Bears always save the day! My sister and I used to line our care bears up and pretended they were doing the care bear stare!

Now, there are care bears everywhere. They're not really a memory anymore, but a growing fad. It's amazing they're still around.

I had a few of those minatures, but I can't remember which ones I had then I got a "junior" plush Care Bear, Cheer Bear. I remember being so curious about Cheer Bear's gender that I would read the books to try to find out. I was such a strange kid. Anyway, after eventually finding out, I wanted a standard-size Care Bear so the following Christmas, I got a standard-size Good Luck Bear.

I remember having most of the care bears, and watching the care bear movie. I thought they were great and used to have them lined up with my My Little Ponies! Why do the new care bears not look so nice as the ones from the 80's and why do some (like share bear) now have a different image on their belly?

I love Care Bears. I only had a standard-size Wish, and a poseable Friend as a child. I collect some of the new ones now, but I am seriously disappointed that all the new standard-size ones, and even some smaller ones, talk >:( I just want a good ol' cuddly Care Bear. I guess I'll have to go to the specialty shoppe, and get a retro one. Grumpy is my absolute favourite Bear, and then DayDream Bear. I love the new Cubs, too. I of course love Wish Bear, as I had him as a child. I have a few different versions of him, just not the annoying talking ones.

I still have the dolls of funshine, cheer and one more...oh! and lionheart, but my brother stole him from me and now i cant find it to take it back. Almost every shirt i see with carebear with a sweet saying/pic i buy it. Except for the grumpy bear at HotTopic...that one just scares me.

I have an original Birthday Bear that I have managed to locate. He has Pride of Place in the lounge and the children are not allowed to play with him. I'm 29 now and know he was one of my first. Hes the small plastic one. Also have a bundle of the minatures that I keep in Cornwall for the children to play with when we visit my Dad. I did have the house too. Some of the best toys ever.

Care Bears were cute overweight cuddly teddybears that helped children throughout the world to cope with their problems. It kept my 5 year old daughter very quiet on her first flight to the USA looking for Care Bears on the clouds. She never saw one. Wish it still worked!

I always wanted Birthday bear, but my Mum got me Wish Bear instead - which I was over-joyed with. I still have him 25 years on, keep promising my daughter I'll get him down from the loft. I've since bought her a Birthday bear and she has a couple of the new small poseable bears, which she loves.

The original fiendishly difficult puzzle, invented by Erno Rubik in Hungary and one of the biggest toy crazes ever. In 1982 Hawkin's Bazaar was the first to bring a few cases of the Rubik's Cube to England. Unfortunately 25 years ago we were very small and it wasn't long before a much larger company had the exclusive rights to distribute in the UK. We are very pleased to be offering it again! And now includes a new seven step solution guide.

Shogun Warriors

Shogun Warriors

Shogun Warriors were released by Mattel during the late 70's/early 80's and were toys of popular Japanese Super Robots from the 60's/70's. Such robots as Great Mazinga, Gaiking, and Raideen were among those featured in this toy line.

There were several different forms of Shogun Warriors, some of which were based off the old Japanese toy lines ("Chogokin" and "Popy" lines produced by Ban Dai). There were large 24-inch toys (the oddest being Godzilla), smaller die-cast metals toys (the Two-in-Ones), even smaller lesser-articulated die-cast metal toys, and vehicles. As far as I know none of the Japanese cartoons ever made it to the rest of the world. The toys featured shooting fists and other projectiles.
